In 4 Training provides annual re-certification for “Security Guard” firearms licence requirements. This course in security firearms training annual re-certification is required under the Qld weapons regulations 1996 by everyone wanting to renew their “Security Guard” weapons licence.
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to determine when to use a firearm to respond to possible life-threatening situations. It requires the ability to analyse risk factors and intentions of persons and to maintain, operate and store firearms and ammunition in accordance with legislative requirements.
This unit will form part of the licensing and legal requirements for the use of firearms by persons working in the security industry in Qld where these are regulated activities.

It is recommended that you have completed a minimum of Year 10 or equivalent and have a good level of English reading and writing skills.
The candidate must provide evidence of the following
- A current Qld “Security Guard” weapons licence.
- A current Qld Class 1 Security Licence with Crowd Control and Cash in Transit functions.
- A current HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid certificate or HLTAID014 – Advanced First Aid certificate.
These criteria are offered as a guideline for candidates to participate in the firearms course. The final responsibility regarding the ability to participate in course rests with the candidate.
- Average fitness level and can stand for extended periods. (more than 40 minutes)
- Adopt various shooting positions safely and be able to rise unassisted whilst still maintaining control of the firearm.
- Transition to the kneel on both or either knee and be able to raise unassisted
- Transition to a sitting position and able to raise unassisted
- Lie in a prone position and rise unassisted
- Have adequate hand/finger dexterity to safely and effectively manipulate firearm
- Have adequate grip strength to control firearm during recoil
- Have adequate finger strength to operate firearm in double-action mode
- Have adequate hand/finger dexterity to safely and effectively manipulate firearm
- Have sufficient eyesight to clearly focus on firearm sights and visually discriminate between friend/foe targets at distances up to 15m (corrective lenses permitted)
- Must be able to wear protective eye wear whilst on the range. (mandatory)
- Ability to hear range commands whilst wearing mandatory hearing protection
- Ability to give verbal commands clearly
The course consists of a written exam and a live fire qualification shoot at an approved firing range for categories you specifically require:
- C (shotgun)
- E (ballistics vest)
- H (semi-automatic pistol)
- H (revolver)
In 4 Training deliver this course over 2 days. 1 day for theory and weapons handling the second 1/2 day is for your range shoot. This course is a competency-based program, so mere attendance is no guarantee of certification.

This unit of competency meets the Qld police weapons licencing branch requirement to renew your
“Security Licence (Guard)” weapons licence.

- H – Carry, operate and maintain revolvers for security purposes – CPPSEC3115
- H – Carry, operate and maintain semi-automatic pistols for security purposes – CPPSEC3115
- C – Carry, operate and maintain shotguns for security purposes – CPPSEC3117
You must lodge your weapons licence renewal no less than 1 day prior to the expiry date.
It is recommended that you make contact with your trainer and undertake your re-certification training and assessment within 60 days prior to your expiry date.
Renewals made for Security Guard Firearms Licences are handled by the Weapons Licencing Branch of Queensland Police. This service incurs a fee to process, approve and re issue the licence.
